Belgium's stock market closed higher on Thursday, with the BEL 20 index gaining 0.67% to reach a new three-month high. The increase was driven by strong performances in the Basic Materials, Telecoms, and Industrials sectors.
Among the top performers on the BEL 20, Syensqo SA (EBR:SYENS) led the way, rising 3.55% or 2.64 points to close at 77.07. Umicore SA (EBR:UMI) followed with a gain of 2.22% or 0.22 points, ending the day at 10.15. D’Ieteren NV (EBR:IETB) also saw a positive session, up 1.68% or 2.70 points, closing at 163.60.
On the downside, Melexis NV (EBR:MLXS) was the worst performer, falling 3.01% or 1.80 points to close at 58.05. KBC Groep NV (EBR:KBC) declined by 0.82% or 0.62 points, finishing at 74.68, while UCB SA (EBR:UCB) dropped 0.68% or 1.30 points to end at 189.35.
Overall, rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Brussels Stock Exchange, with 65 stocks advancing, 24 declining, and 19 remaining unchanged.
In commodities, Gold Futures for April delivery rose 1.63% or 45.49 to $2,838.99 per troy ounce. Crude oil for March delivery increased by 0.21% or 0.15, reaching $72.77 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.28 to trade at $75.89 a barrel.
In the currency markets, the EUR/USD remained unchanged at 1.04, while the EUR/GBP saw a slight increase of 0.02% to 0.84. The US Dollar Index Futures dipped 0.07% to 107.73.
