Belgrade’s DOTS Gallery is set to host a solo exhibition by Richard Deacon
Belgrade’s DOTS Gallery is set to host a solo exhibition by renowned British abstract sculptor Richard Deacon, titled Looking for Something. The exhibition will open on September 19 and run until December 7, located at the gallery in Kalemegdan fortress. This event, organized with the support of the British Council and the UK Embassy in Belgrade, marks Deacon's first solo exhibition in Serbia.
The exhibition will feature works from five different cycles created by Deacon over the past several years, showcasing his innovative approach to sculpture. Known for experimenting with a variety of materials such as laminated wood, polycarbonate, fabrics, and clay, Deacon’s work often blends organic forms with technical elements, creating a unique visual language. His thoughtful engagement with language as a structural element in his abstract works further distinguishes his artistic style.
Deacon’s presence has already been felt in Belgrade’s visual landscape, most notably through his collaboration with Serbian sculptor Mrđan Bajić on the sculpture From There to Here, installed on the Kalemegdan pedestrian bridge in 2019. The DOTS Gallery exhibition will also be the first to display works that Deacon created during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering a unique glimpse into his recent artistic endeavors.
