Bencic fights her way into the 3rd round at the US Open
Belinda Bencic qualifies for the 3rd round of the US Open after a big fight. Eastern Switzerland, number 13, defeated Romanian Sorana Cirstea (WTA 37) in just under two and a half hours 3: 6, 7: 5, 6: 2. Now on Saturday she will meet the former US Open finalist Karolina Pliskova (WTA 22) or the Wimbledon quarter-finalist Marie Bouzkova (WTA 41), both from the Czech Republic.

After losing the starting set, the Olympic champion was already 3:5 behind in the second round and two points before elimination before she managed to turn the tide with four games in a row.
In the decisive third set, Bencic managed the first break to make it 3-1. With a second to 6:2, the Swiss prevented having to serve again. So in the end it didn't matter that she was only able to take 5 of 18 break chances. Read More…
