Best campsites near to Bristol to enjoy this summer

As the temperature rises, signaling the arrival of summer, anticipation builds for the much-anticipated camping season. Every year, a multitude of Brits eagerly prepare for their camping adventures, packing up their vehicles and venturing into the serene countryside for a rejuvenating week or weekend amidst nature's embrace.

Bristol, fortunately, enjoys the presence of picturesque green spaces that envelop the outskirts of our city. From the breathtaking Mendip hills to the expansive countryside of South Gloucestershire, we are truly blessed with splendid surroundings. For those seeking a slightly more adventurous journey, the captivating beaches of South Wales lie less than an hour away, offering a stunning coastal retreat.

Moreover, the enchanting regions of Dorset and Devon are a little over an hour's drive from Bristol, boasting some of the most exquisite coastlines in the entire United Kingdom. These locations present an array of campgrounds, providing the perfect setting for a weekend getaway immersed in nature's tranquility.

Recently, a Reddit user turned to the popular social media platform to seek recommendations for the best campsites accessible from Bristol. In a post titled 'Best campsites to explore near Bristol,' they inquired, "Where would you suggest going camping that isn't too far from Bristol? Are there any scenic hiking spots in the vicinity? What other enjoyable activities can be pursued?"

The post garnered an impressive response, amassing over 40 comments. Numerous users eagerly shared their suggestions, highlighting some remarkable destinations not too distant from the city. While some recommendations required a slightly longer journey, they promised awe-inspiring vistas and unforgettable experiences. Importantly, the original poster specifically sought suggestions for places reachable via public transportation, ensuring accessibility for all adventurers.

As the camping season approaches, it's evident that Bristol and its surrounding areas offer a wealth of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. The combination of captivating landscapes, nearby coastal wonders, and the collective wisdom of fellow campers make this region an ideal haven for those seeking to escape the bustling city life and embrace the serenity of nature.

One of the places suggested was Beeches Farm Campsite in Chepstow. Overlooking the Wye Valley, the campsite offers brilliant views of the Welsh countryside and great routes to walk through woodlands. Campers are allowed ‘fire pits’, with the site being ideal for families, small groups, couples and individuals in tents.

One commenter said: “Beeches over towards Chepstow. It’s on the Offa’s Dyke path and it’s an easy walk down to Tintern Abbey and the pub next door …”

While another said: “Just did this on the train last weekend, walking from Chepstow train station. Campsite is fantastic. One of the best. But watch out - the bridge to Tintern is out of action at the moment so walking to the pub and back is a bit of a killer. Still recommended though”

Another campsite that received a few recommendations from commenters was Daggerwood which was easily accessible by public transport. Located by Clutton, the campsite invites people to ‘wild camp’ in the beautiful Somerset countryside.

One commenter said: “Daggerwood campsite just by Clutton is quite nice, just off a main road with a bus stop nearby as well if you want to do public transport.”

Another person wrote: “Second this! also, if you go to dagger wood i would also recommend checking out rockaway park which is like a 10 min drive from there, one of the coolest places i’ve ever been to. They have a vegan cafe as well."
