Bobi Wine responds to President Museveni’s election rigging accusations
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently stirred controversy in Uganda's political scene by accusing the National Unity Platform (NUP) of rigging the 2021 Presidential Elections, alleging that NUP cheated by 1 million votes through a loophole in the electronic voting system.
However, NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, quickly denied the claims and launched a sharp counter-response, accusing Museveni of rigging the 2021 election and previous ones.
In his statement, Bobi Wine pointed to past Supreme Court rulings that acknowledged electoral malpractices, though they stopped short of nullifying the results. He called for an independent audit of the 2021 election, proposing that a reputable international body like the United Nations conduct the review.
Bobi Wine asserted that if such an audit revealed any wrongdoing by his party, they would accept legal consequences, but added that he had proof of Museveni’s election rigging, military operations against opposition supporters, and suppression of opposition rallies.
Bobi Wine also accepted Museveni's challenge to a court showdown, urging the president to waive his immunity and face legal scrutiny. He emphasized that if the audit proved NUP’s victory was stolen, Museveni should step down and allow the Ugandan people to choose their government.
The escalating confrontation has drawn significant attention as both Ugandans and international observers await further developments in this ongoing political battle.
