The Boca Raton Museum of Art is presenting Oswaldo Vigas: Paintings Between Latin America, Africa, and Europe (on view through May 21), a collection of works by the Latin American master which he created in Paris in the 1950s, and in Venezuela from 1969-1976.
This new exhibition at the Boca Raton Museum of Art features several works that have never been exhibited before in the United States. The paintings are on loan from the Oswaldo Vigas Foundation.
This exhibition is part of a series of tributes scheduled in multiple cities and continents to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Oswaldo Vigas (1923-2014), recognized as one of the most prolific and influential Latin American painters in the world.
This exhibition in South Florida kicks off a series of international events taking place over the next 12 months, in collaboration with various institutions and museums, to honor the 100th anniversary of Vigas's birth. The global tributes will be organized by the Oswaldo Vigas Foundation (chaired by his son Lorenzo Vigas, and by the Foundation's Director, Dilia Hernández).
Oswaldo Vigas: Paintings Between Latin America, Africa, and Europe is an homage to the artist by his son, the award-winning filmmaker Lorenzo Vigas - as an intimate lens through the eyes of their father-son relationship, honoring the launch of the new catalogue raisonné of his father's work.
