#BreakingGrounds showcases Bulgaria's tech ecosystem to 250,000 investors and industry leaders
Bulgaria is rapidly emerging as a significant player in the global tech ecosystem, with its digital economy poised to contribute 16% to the nation's GDP by 2025. The country, long known for its strategic location, abundant tech talent, and low operating costs, is gaining recognition as a rising star in the SaaS and ICT sectors. This growth is epitomized by the success of Bulgaria's first unicorn and the increasing expansion of regional companies into Western Europe.
The #BreakingGrounds initiative, launched by The Recursive's Storytelling Studio, aims to further elevate Bulgaria's status on the global stage by connecting the country's tech ecosystem with international investors and industry leaders. The initiative's vision is to establish Bulgaria as a deeptech hub by 2027, and it is already making significant strides toward that goal.
Boyko Takov, Executive Director at the Bulgarian SME Promotion Agency, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in supporting Bulgarian companies as they expand into international markets. The agency collaborates with #BreakingGrounds to showcase Bulgarian startups and scaleups to the world, helping to position the country as a competitive player in the global tech industry.
#BreakingGrounds leverages audience analysis to enhance the public relations, digital presence, and social media campaigns of Bulgarian tech companies. The initiative also curates delegations of tech leaders to represent the region at major global conferences such as Web Summit, Slush, and the DLD Conference. Last year, Bulgarian delegates participated in 567 meetings across Slush and Web Summit, underscoring the growing interest in the country's tech scene.
Bulgaria's role as a leading hub for venture capital in Southeast Europe (SEE) is supported by Sofia Tech Park, which plays a crucial role in fostering partnerships and facilitating growth in the tech sector. Pavel Lisev, CEO at FMFIB, highlighted Bulgaria's progress in building an interconnected, tech-enabled ecosystem with regional and global reach.
The Bulgarian government has also prioritized the tech sector, with initiatives such as the International Technical Fair and AWS Community Day Bulgaria further boosting the industry's growth. In 2024, #BreakingGrounds has planned to attend 11 conferences, including Tech.eu Summit in London, Bits & Pretzels in Munich, How To Web in Bucharest, Web Summit in Lisbon, and Slush in Helsinki, culminating with FinTech Connect in London.
Through these efforts, Bulgaria is steadily carving out its place as a key player in the global tech landscape, attracting investment and fostering innovation in the region.
