Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival unveils 24th edition lineup
The 24th edition of the Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival (Bafici) features the latest offerings from Argentine cinema, as well as works from renowned art-house filmmakers and emerging directors. The festival's highlights include world premieres, retrospectives, conferences, special activities, and outdoor screenings, including a Drive-In venue. Taking place in the downtown area of Buenos Aires, the festival runs from April 19 to May, with a total of 250 films, half of which are world premieres. Ticket prices are affordable, and films are subtitled in English.
The festival opens with the world premiere of "Last Resort," a fictional Argentine feature by director Matías Szulanski, exploring the investigation of a forgotten World Cup edition. The program also includes a retrospective of contemporary Indian filmmaker Rajat Kapoor, as well as notable Argentine films competing in the international category. The Baficito section offers a program for children and young adults, featuring films such as "The Black Pharaoh, the Savage and the Princess" by Michel Ocelot and "Perlimps" by Ale Abrey. In addition to competitive sections, the festival presents non-competitive programs organized by theme, showcasing films by established art-house directors. The Focus section highlights the works of French director Clément Cogitore and Spanish filmmaker Norberto Ramos del Val. The festival aims to revive the connection between filmmakers and audiences in an era of rapidly changing film distribution.
