Caitlin Clark Wants to Represent Team USA in a Different Sport
Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever phenom, has made waves in the WNBA with what many consider one of the most prolific rookie seasons in league history. Establishing herself as one of the top players in the world, Clark is already looking ahead to the 2028 Summer Olympics, where she has expressed interest in representing Team USA in a different sport: flag football.
For the first time, the 2028 Olympic Games will feature flag football, and during a recent appearance at the NFL Annual League Meeting, Clark shared her enthusiasm for the sport. Reflecting on her childhood love for football, she playfully suggested the possibility of competing in both basketball and flag football at the Olympics. "Maybe L.A. 2028, maybe I'll do two sports," Clark said. "Or if basketball doesn't work out, I'll head over to flag football."
While her comments were likely made in jest, they sparked interest and conversation about the potential for crossover athletes in the Olympics. USA Football CEO and Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck responded positively to Clark's idea during an interview with TMZ Sports, emphasizing that while the organization is open to talented athletes from other sports, each player must earn their spot on the team. "USA Football is going to assemble the best possible team for the Los Angeles Olympics, and crossover athletes have already proven they can compete in flag at the highest levels," Hallenbeck stated. "That said, there’s a process, and each player will have to earn their spot for LA28."
Clark's athletic prowess is not limited to basketball. During the WNBA offseason, she showcased her skills in a different arena by participating in a celebrity pro-am at the LPGA’s The Annika driven by Gainbridge tournament at Pelican Golf Club in Florida. Expressing her excitement about the opportunity, Clark said, “I love golf, so the opportunity to play in the pro-am for a tournament with a legend like Annika Sorenstam’s name on it is so exciting.” She highlighted the importance of organizations like Gainbridge in supporting women’s sports and expressed her eagerness to engage with LPGA players and participate in the Women’s Leadership Summit.
While the idea of Clark competing for Team USA's flag football team at the 2028 Olympics may seem ambitious, her status as one of the top athletes in the world makes it a conversation worth having. As she continues to excel in basketball, her passion for sports and willingness to explore new challenges could open doors to exciting opportunities in the future. Whether she ultimately pursues flag football or remains focused on basketball, Caitlin Clark's athletic journey is sure to inspire many.
