Camille Charrière's best tips for buying vintage

Dior, Versace, Fendi… Vintage luxury is Camille Charrière's indulgence.

From her collection of Nensi Dojaka dresses to this recycled wedding dress by Harris Reed , Camille Charrière 's style is undeniable. But what you might not have noticed is its vintage fashion appeal.

Start somewhere

“When I was younger, like many teenagers, I couldn't afford designer pieces,” the young woman told Vogue about her love affair with the second-hand world. “The first luxury creation I was able to buy was a vintage handbag”.

According to Camille Charrière , there really is added value when you decide to buy luxury vintage pieces. “I think most people don't consider vintage luxury to be really luxury. I never took it like that, on the contrary” she explains. “If I can get a piece that can't be found in stores, that's even more fun. There is a hint of stigma that remains around the second hand and that has to change".

Between a bag directly inspired by the 90's off-duty style of Kate Moss signed Azzedine Alaïa and her Jean Paul Gaultier  illusion dress straight out of her spring-summer 1996-1997 collection, we can no longer deny her ability to find rare pieces of great value. “I've always loved antiquing,” she says. “It's also the fact of sitting down and really asking yourself the question 'Do I need this?' that attracts me. I think you appreciate a garment or an accessory even more when the 'we finally found it after a long search".

Patience is the key, and when your name is Camille Charrière , you sometimes spent hours looking for the piece on vintage resale sites like Vestiaire Collective or 1stDibs , not to mention the local vintage shops in which you have to sometimes struggle before finding what you want. "I live off Portobello Road, and there's plenty of that in our neighborhood. The market is quite honestly great for that. And otherwise we have Rellik, One Of A Kind, Found and Vision and Karen Vintage . ”

“If you go to a nice vintage shop, always ask what they have in their stash, sometimes that's where the nicest pieces are hidden.” - Camille Charrière

What is she looking for right now? “Anything signed by John Galliano ” replies Camille Charrière , who recently wore a 2004 Dior matching set , unearthed on My Runway Archive , during her honeymoon in Jamaica. "I'm always up for a Karl [Lagerfeld] design when he was the head of Fendi in the early 2000s." she says. “And Versace in the 90s version, the Gianni Versace era of course , where you could find all the most beautiful mini dresses and evening dresses worn by the great supermodels.” Read More...
