Cassovia Folkfest 2023
The 41st installment of the Cassovia Folkfest will be held from June 22 to June 25, 2023, encompassing venues in Košice, Valaliki, and Kechnec.
The Cassovia Folkfest carries on the rich tradition of showcasing folklore events in the heart of eastern Slovakia, the vibrant city of Košice. Its primary objective is to celebrate and share the authentic cultural heritage of the Košice self-governing region, Slovakia, and various European countries. The festival endeavors to introduce the general public to the diverse and vibrant folk traditions of Slovakia and other nations.
This year, we are thrilled to welcome spirited folklore groups from Turkey (Ankara DESEN GSK), Sicily (FABARIA FOLK), Ukraine (Vesnyanka), and Israel (Mount Hod Hasharon) to grace our event.
On June 22 and 23, 2023, the highly popular REMESIEL FAIR will take place, offering a delightful array of traditional goods. Numerous vendors will be waiting to entice you with their wares, ranging from intricately woven wicker baskets and hand-painted mugs to exquisite wooden crafts, delectable Slovak honey, jewelry, and beautifully embellished spoons. Zuzana Krajňáková, the fair's manager, revealed, "We plan to set up 60-80 stalls, ensuring a wide selection that appeals to everyone."
Expanding the festival's reach to the neighboring villages of Košice is one of our primary goals. Consequently, this year's festivities will also extend to Valalík and Kechnec.
In Kechnec, the festival program will commence at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023, on a stage near the sports area. The talented folk entertainer Jožko Jožka will set the atmosphere with captivating performances, accompanied by foreign ensembles who will showcase their rich cultural traditions through captivating singing and dancing. Traditionally, the program will be hosted by Zuzka Bobriková.
The festival in Valaliki will blend a fusion of domestic and international folklore. On Sunday, June 25, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., local folk groups for both children and adults, such as FSk KADLUBEK, women's singing group PARÁDNE ŇEVESTI, and children's FSk KADLUBČEK, will captivate the audience. Following their mesmerizing performances, the aforementioned foreign ensembles from Turkey, Sicily, Israel, and Ukraine will enthral the spectators with a captivating program.
Mark your calendars for the grand gala program on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in the historic Košice Town Hall. This event promises to be a spectacular highlight of the festival.
A notable aspect of the festival is its collaboration with Radio Regina Východ, culminating in a live broadcast concert. Radio listeners will have the opportunity to tune in and enjoy live singing and musical performances by both domestic and foreign ensembles. The radio studio will host the enchanting melodies on Thursday, June 22, 2023, starting at 7:30 p.m., while the broadcast on Radio Regina Východ is scheduled for July 8, 2023, at 3:05 p.m. as part of the Klenotnica folk music show.
