Chilean Army Chief Resigns After Scandal
The Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean Army, Ricardo Martínez, announced his resignation on March 2, one day before he declared himself accused before military justice for alleged corruption in a broader case known as 'Milicogate' .
"Despite the fact that he should have the presumption of innocence, which every citizen enjoys but which in practice applies to some and not to all, I hereby announce that I have resolved to submit to the President of the Republic my resignation from the position of Commander-in -Chief of the Army ”, said the general before the military staff.
The former commander-in-chief will testify today before the military justice system for alleged embezzlement of public funds in the purchase of air tickets, which could have been used by military relatives. Read More…
