World Cup 2022: FIFA rejects Chile as Ecuador goes to Qatar
There will be no shake-up in the group, Ecuador will indeed be at the 2022 World Cup. FIFA confirmed this on Friday 10 June. The governing body of world football has given its verdict in the dispute between Ecuador and Chile. The Chilean Football Federation was rejected. The Chilean leaders had asked for the disqualification of the Ecuadorian team, arguing that the team had fielded Byron David Castillo Segura even though he was a Colombian.
"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has ruled on the potential ineligibility of the player Byron David Castillo Segura, who played eight matches for the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) in the preliminary competition for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar? After analyzing the files submitted by all parties and taking into consideration all the elements presented to it, the Disciplinary Committee decided to close the procedure initiated against the FEF. The conclusions of the decision were notified today to the parties concerned. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the parties have 10 days to request the reasons for the decision, which, if appropriate, will then be published on legal.fifa.com. This decision may be appealed to the FIFA Appeal Committee," FIFA wrote in its statement. Read More...
