Coinbase executive says Canada needs to adopt a comprehensive crypto regulation
Canada stands at a crossroads when it comes to the regulation of digital assets, and according to Coinbase's country director for Canada, Lucas Matheson, an overhaul is imperative. Speaking at the Blockchain Futurist Conference on August 13, Matheson shed light on the current state of crypto regulation in Canada, calling for significant modernization despite the existing robust framework.
Matheson emphasized that 85% of nations are poised to adopt comprehensive regulations for digital assets within the next year. He stressed the urgency of initiating public discourse to educate government officials on the critical role cryptocurrencies can play in the financial landscape.
Highlighting the broader mission of the Stand With Crypto initiative, which has recently expanded its reach, Matheson articulated a clear vision: “Canada has substantial work ahead to reform its laws. The objective is to transform Canada's legislative environment to enhance economic liberty and modernize the financial system."
In closing, Matheson urged the audience to join the advocacy efforts, underlining the importance of collective action in driving change.
