Dangerous turtle escapes from typhoon-swollen garden pond in Japan
A turtle that can inflict injuries with its bite has escaped after heavy rain brought by Typhoon Nanmadol caused the home garden pond it was being kept in to overflow.
Yamaguchi Prefectural Police's Shunan Police Station announced on Sept. 19 that a local woman in her 60s reported that the turtle, which is 30 to 40 centimeters long, in her pond had disappeared. The typhoon dumped 305 millimeters of rain on Shunan over the 24 hours ending at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 -- the most precipitation ever recorded in the city.
The turtle was acquired by the woman's late husband about 20 years ago. He had reportedly told her that it was dangerous. Read More...
