Dark Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Fan Art Shows Peter At Venom's Mercy
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will see Peter and Miles come up against a new threat in Venom, with one fan drawing how their fight could go down.
A fanmade concept poster for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 depicts a brutal showdown between Peter Parker's webhead and the title's main antagonist, Venom. Although fans have already been introduced to Insomniac's version of Peter Parker's Spider-Man and his white-spidered Advanced Suit redesign in the 2018 game, a teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel showed a glimpse at a more traditional design for Venom.
Insomniac's take on the Spider-Man mythos has been highly praised, with many deeming 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man and 2020's Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales the best Spider-Man games to date. The series has also been hugely successful, as Sony announced that it had sold over 33 million copies globally as of May 2022. Marvel's Spider-Man offered a more mature take on Peter Parker as he navigates life as a young adult, rather than the more common depictions of him as a high schooler, resulting in a title that ventured into darker territory. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be darker than the first game, according to Marvel, with the arrival of Venom posing a new threat to Peter and Miles.
Because of these darker themes, Redditor The_Living_Paradox's poster concept for the upcoming sequel is not out of place for the series. The fan poster features Venom looming over a beaten Peter Parker, trapped in a black web with the symbiote's bloodied claws approaching for the kill. Venom has always been one of Spider-Man's darker antagonists, and many fans are looking forward to seeing how Insomniac chooses to depict the Alien Costume Saga in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

The post-credits in both Marvel's Spider-Man games teased Venom, and its origins seem to be taking some inspiration from Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley's Ultimate Spider-Man comics, which saw it used as part of an Oscorp experiment to cure illnesses such as cancer. In this case, the experiment is being carried out on Peter's best friend, Harry Osborn, who had been diagnosed with the same terminal illness that his mother succumbed to. It is yet to be seen whether Harry will become Venom, causing an emotional arc that would see Peter having to defeat his best friend, or whether his experiment will lead to the symbiote breaking free and eventually taking Eddie Brock as its host much like the comics. Eddie Brock had been teased in the worldbuilding backpacks of Marvel's Spider-Man, so it's not outside the realms of possibility that he could appear in the sequel. The casting of a Candyman's Tony Todd as the voice of Venom further leaves fans in the dark about who Insomniac has chosen for the symbiote's alter ego. Read More…
