Morocco’s transport and logistics ministry announced on Tuesday that it is in the process of drafting a bill to propose the indexation of transit tariffs to fuel prices.
The draft bill will go through an approval procedure before becoming an official law.
The bill is part of a reform process launched by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in partnership with Moroccan transit professionals, according to official sources.
After long rounds of negotiations between transit professionals and the ministry, the draft bill comes in response to complaints from professionals within the transit sector, the statement explains.
The draft bill comes to address the increase in oil prices and its impact on national transport costs.
Minister of Transport and Logistics Mohammed Abdeljalil held a meeting on Tuesday morning with transportation labor unions to discuss the new draft proposal.
During the meeting, transit professionals explained a wide range of difficulties facing the sector including pending loans, the official sources indicate.
