Egypt's Culture Ministry to launch Arab Orientation Festival at Opera House

Under the auspices of Minister of Culture Ines Abdel Dayem, the Egyptian Opera House will launch the Arab Orientation Festival on 26 February, which will run for three nights.
The festival, which starts at 8pm Cairo time, will include three concerts featuring 11 composers from Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.
Abdel-Dayem said that the Arab Orientation Festival is a way to shed light on the classic musical works of Arab composers. She added that the festival aims to enrich the musical life in the Arab world, noting its role in expressing the innovative creations that bear an Arab character in the Western image.
Abdel Dayem confirmed that the festival will allocate a night to honour the late musician Gamal Salama with selections from his outstanding compositions.
Salama was an Egyptian songwriter and melodist. He established a prestigious career in academia in addition to taking over a few positions at several national music ensembles and assemblies for decades.
Furthermore, he composed dozens of soundtracks for some of the most important films, TV series, and theatre productions since the late 1970s.
Opera President Magdy Saber said that the first concert will be held at the Grand Theatre on 26 February, while the second concert will be held on the small stage on 1 March. Read More…
