Engineer Weluzani ‘invents' talking glove
While the world is still waiting for technology that will address communication barriers faced by people living with hearing and visual impairment, Weluzani Banda, 30, says he has found a solution. Mr Banda, an engineer, who is based in Kalulushi and works for Zesco Limited, has invented a glove that converts sign language into audio messages. His smart glove is equipped with near field communication (NFC) fittings to enable visually impaired people to identify items they touch. This means the glove will be able to mention the name of whatever item the user touches. The inventor claims that it will benefit both the deaf and blind.
According to Investopedia, NFC is a short-range wireless technology that makes NFC-enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets, wearables, payment cards and others to communicate with each other through electromagnetic radio fields. It further says with NFC, one can transfer information between devices quickly and easily, with a single touch.
Using the NFC technology, Mr Banda’s special glove will enable the hearing-impaired to communicate with other people without the use of an interpreter. Read More...
