Exhibition “On a rock, a brief circle of sun†at Selma-Feriani Gallery: The realities of Massinissa
Staging and juxtaposition, through small drawings, of disparate elements in unfathomable, elusive settings that seem to have neither limits, nor beginning, nor end, the artist reconstructs all kinds of current events, by confronting these elements isolated from their context (press photographs, typographical images, etc.), giving them other existences.
The Selma-Feriani gallery is hosting, until November 13, 2022, Massinissa Selmani's solo exhibition, entitled "On a rock, a brief circle of sun" (On a rock, a brief circle of sun). This is the second time that the gallery's picture rails have hosted the works of this Algerian artist who lives and works in Tours, France.
In his exhibition, commissioned by Roger Malbert, the artist reflects on themes such as exclusion, territorial borders and their crossings, proximity and distance, flight and freedom.
The work of Massinissa Selmani draws on and draws from the media imagination, political and social news. And it is through and with drawing, this medium which offers the possibility of working anywhere, of capturing things, thoughts and ideas directly and instantaneously, that this paper enthusiast, whom he says he loved to smell and smell when young , strives to confront and juxtapose, without logical coherence, real elements to create enigmatic and ambiguous scenes.
