Feyenoord Targets Robin van Persie for Manager Position; Contact Made with Heerenveen
Feyenoord has initiated discussions with SC Heerenveen regarding their current manager, Robin van Persie, as they seek to fill the managerial vacancy left by Brian Priske, who was sacked on February 10. According to reports from Voetbal Primeur, the Rotterdam club is keen on bringing the former Feyenoord striker back to the club in a managerial capacity.
Robin van Persie is in his first season as a senior manager with Heerenveen, having previously served as an under-19 coach and striker coach at Feyenoord. Under his leadership, Heerenveen is currently positioned ninth in the Eredivisie league table. His experience as a player, combined with his coaching background, makes him a strong candidate for the role at Feyenoord.
Currently, Feyenoord is being managed on an interim basis by Pascal Bosschaart. The club's plan is to have Van Persie take over the managerial position, with experienced coach Rene Hake serving as his assistant. Hake, who left his role as manager of Go Ahead Eagles last summer to join Manchester United as an assistant, has a proven track record, having led Go Ahead Eagles to European football for the first time in the club's history.
Van Persie enjoyed a highly successful playing career, coming through the youth ranks at Feyenoord before making a name for himself at Arsenal, Manchester United, and Fenerbahce. He concluded his playing days back at Feyenoord, where he won several prestigious titles, including the English Premier League, FA Cup, KNVB Cup, and UEFA Cup.
Feyenoord will need to negotiate with Heerenveen to secure Van Persie’s release. Given that Hake is currently unemployed, his appointment as Van Persie's assistant would be a straightforward process.
Despite their recent success in the UEFA Champions League, where they advanced to the last 16 by knocking out AC Milan, Feyenoord has struggled in the league this season, currently sitting in fourth place. The club is looking to revitalize its performance and believes that bringing in Van Persie could be a pivotal move in achieving that goal.
As Feyenoord pursues Robin van Persie for the managerial position, the club aims to leverage his experience and connection to the team to enhance their performance both domestically and in European competitions. The upcoming negotiations with Heerenveen will be crucial in determining whether Van Persie can return to Feyenoord in a managerial role, potentially marking the beginning of a new chapter for the club.
