France Waters Green Spaces With Swimming Pool Water to Combat Drought

As a drought looms over western France, the communities of Niort and Sansais-La-Garette are pumping water from swimming pools and an ice rink in order to hydrate nearby green spaces.
The municipality said this is the first time the city used this "common sense measure."
Nearly the entire country is expected to be affected by drought this summer, and the southeastern and western regions will be especially impacted, Connexion France reported last month. No area in France is without drought risk this summer, according to data published by The Ecology Ministry and Le Monde.
Currently, 24 departments are under water restrictions, according to the country's Ministry of Ecological Transition. Restrictions range from simple calls to conserve water for some areas to a more than 50% reduction of water usage for agricultural withdrawals. Some places have issued bans on washing cars, watering gardens and filling pools, The Press United reported.
Eight of the departments have been on restrictions since mid-April, when rainfall for the country reached 25% below normal. Abnormally hot temperatures in May exacerbated the issue.
