Greek FA struggles to find venue for May 24 Cup final
The forthcoming Greek Cup final game between AEK Athens and PAOK has become a significant predicament for the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO). This is because they have not yet determined a suitable location to hold the game, even though it is scheduled to take place on May 24th.
The Greek FA was unable to locate an appropriate stadium within their borders, which led them to search for venues outside the country, such as in Cyprus, Britain, and Poland.
The EPO has declared that they have narrowed down the potential locations to two, and they plan to disclose their final decision on May 12th. It is a widely held belief that a match between AEK-PAOK would pose a significant risk of fan violence.
The Cyprus police reported that they denied a request from the Greek FA in April due to concerns about public safety.
Meanwhile, Arkadiusz Checinski, the mayor of Sosnowiec in Poland, acknowledged that discussions are ongoing about the possibility of hosting the game in their city via Facebook.
EPO has blamed their difficulties in securing a suitable venue within Greece on a "concerted effort to obstruct the Cup final's hosting under the guise of fan violence, which EPO is not responsible for."
