Vietnam National Team ranks 117th in new FIFA ranking
Vietnam’s men’s national football team has dropped to 117th place in the latest FIFA rankings, marking its lowest position since November 2017. This decline follows two recent defeats in friendly matches during September 2024.
In the 2024 LPBank Cup, Vietnam lost 2-1 to Thailand at Mỹ Đình Stadium, despite initially taking the lead with a goal from Tiến Linh. Thailand's Suphanat Muenta and Patrik Gustavsson scored in the first half, leading to a comeback victory for Thailand. This defeat extended Vietnam's winless streak against Thailand, with their last victory against them occurring in 2019.
Earlier in the month, Vietnam also suffered a 3-0 defeat to Russia. As a result of these losses, Vietnam was deducted a total of 6.66 points in the FIFA rankings, dropping the team from 115th to 117th place with a score of 1,163.50 points.
