Greek Post office Adds Mini Robots to Sorting System

The Greek Post Office (ELTA) is expanding the use of autonomous mini robots (AMRs) in its sorting system with the addition of forty-five new ones, this time in Thessaloniki.
The robots, which were first introduced to ELTA’s “workforce” at its Athens digital sorting center in autumn 2021, will be on demonstration at the 86th Thessaloniki International Fair launching on Saturday.
“Visitors will be able to place parcels on the robots and enjoy the live experience,” ELTA said in an announcement.
State-of-the-art mini robots
The mini robots operate on state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology which allows them to lift letters or parcels of up to ten kilograms each, automatically weigh them, and sort them to the right mail bag for delivery.
This new technology has multiplied the efficiency and speed of the mail sorting process.
ELTA’s fleet of 125 mini robots at the Athens digital distribution center can manage an estimated seven thousand items per hour, which equals to 165,000 per day, a press release said last November, when the robotic sorting system of the Greek Post Office originally launched.
