Gunmen Abduct Five Persons in Kwara
A 10-man gang of kidnappers has reportedly abducted five individuals, including a woman, her daughter, a visitor, and two men, in the Odo-Eku community of Isin Local Government Area in Kwara State. The incident occurred at midnight on Tuesday while residents were asleep.
According to local sources, the bandits invaded the community, firing sporadically into the air to create chaos and panic among the villagers. This sudden attack caused residents to flee for safety, during which the kidnappers seized the opportunity to abduct the five victims.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants herded the victims into the bush, leading to widespread confusion and distress within the community as families and friends sought to rescue their loved ones.
Elder Ogundeji, the Odofin of Odo-Eku and a High Chief in the community, confirmed the abduction, stating, “The victims are Hausa farmers who live in Odo-Eku. Among them are a woman, her daughter, another woman who was visiting, and two men.” He added that local police had visited the scene and assured the community that they would investigate the incident and work towards rescuing the victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, acknowledged the incident, which occurred around 1:15 AM on January 15, 2025. She confirmed that three males and two females had been taken to an unknown location.
“Immediate deployment has long taken place; the Police, alongside the Vigilante, are on a rescue mission,” she stated, assuring the community that further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
The abduction has left the Odo-Eku community in a state of fear and uncertainty, prompting local vigilance groups, hunters, and security agencies to mobilize in the surrounding areas in an effort to locate and rescue the victims. The community is rallying together, hoping for a swift resolution to the crisis and the safe return of their loved ones.
