Health reminds that measles is highly contagious, but preventable with the vaccine
The director of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), Héctor Castro, explained on Monday that measles is a highly contagious disease but preventable with the vaccine. So far there is a suspected case in the department of Itapúa.
“It is a highly contagious disease, but absolutely preventable with the vaccine. At this time, the priority continues to be the population from one to six years of age for vaccination, with an additional dose,” said the director of the EPI in communication with radio 780 AM.
He argued that the suspected case is not confirmed so far, but the situation in the region is that any child with respiratory symptoms and skin lesions compatible with measles is notified.
“Being a mandatory notification, by intervening early and vaccinating those who do not have the vaccine, the outbreak is avoided. At this time we are also expanding vaccination to health professionals, precisely because they are on the front line of exposure,” added Castro. Read More…
