Hearts Sign Colombian Defender Salazar on Loan
Heart of Midlothian FC, also known as Hearts, has completed the loan signing of 21-year-old Colombian defender, Salazar. The young defender has already gained significant experience playing for Atletico Nacional in Colombia and has represented his country at various youth levels.
Salazar made his first-team debut in 2023 and played a crucial role in helping Atletico Nacional reach the final of the Torneo Apertura, where they lost on penalties. He also featured in four matches in the Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the Champions League.
At the international level, Salazar has represented Colombia in several tournaments, including the 2022 South American Games, the 2023 Under-20s South American Championship, and the 2023 Under-20s World Cup. He has also earned one senior cap for Colombia in a friendly win against Iraq in June last year.
Hearts head coach, Steven Naismith, expressed his delight at securing the loan deal, saying: "A lot of hard work has gone into making this deal possible, so I'm happy it's now over the line. We're getting a quality player with loads of experience, despite his young age. He's played domestic, continental, and international football, so he'll bring that knowledge to the dressing room."
Naismith believes that Salazar's talent will bring healthy competition to the squad, saying: "His talent means there will be healthy competition amongst the squad for a place in the starting line-up, and I'm looking forward to working with him."
Salazar is the latest addition to Hearts' squad, following a busy summer of signings, including Malachi Boateng, Musa Drammeh, Yan Dhanda, Blair Spittal, James Penrice, Daniel Oyegoke, Kenneth Vargas, Ryan Fulton, Jamie MacDonald, and Gerald Taylor on loan.
The Colombian defender is expected to bring his experience and skills to the Hearts squad, and fans will be eager to see him in action at Tynecastle.
