Helaas pindakaas, the NL has been eliminated from the Eurovision Song Contest
Unfortunately, Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper, who represented the Netherlands, will not be gracing the Grand Final of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. The duo failed to secure sufficient votes from the audience during the semi-finals held yesterday with their song "Burning Daylight," resulting in their elimination from the competition. According to reports from NOS, this news has disappointed many Dutch fans.
Despite the outcome, the Dutch artists remain optimistic and proud of their journey, saying, "We go home with our heads held high." Cooper acknowledges the fierce competition in the semi-finals, which lacked jury voting and relied solely on televoting. Unfortunately, this marks the first time in eight years that the Netherlands will not be performing in the grand final.
In an interview with NOS, Cooper admits, "It is what it is. It's still a bit of a bummer, we really wanted to be part of it, also because we had a very crazy ride and overcame obstacles. So I'm really disappointed, but that's just part of it and I'm proud of what we've done." The duo faced ups and downs during their journey, with some criticized performances in the run-up to the contest.
Nonetheless, there are still 26 countries left to compete in the grand final, and audiences will have plenty of artists to vote for this Saturday.
