Hennops Hiking Trails is situated just 45 minutes outside Pretoria and Johannesburg and within the beautiful Magaliesburg. They offer three trails that start from Hadeda Camp. They range from ‘easy’ to ‘difficult’ and take you over a suspension bridge as you walk along the Hennops River.
History lovers will enjoy walking past Pruimpie’s cave, dolomite mines, and traces of ancient settlements. Bird lovers will enjoy the indigenous trees that are home to many different types of birds.
Be sure to bring a big bottle of water as there are no water points along the trails and lots of snacks to keep yourself going. They also advise that you choose the correct difficulty level for your fitness level.
Hennops hiking trails:
The Dasie Trail is 3 km long and takes hikers past the dassie caves, the hospital cave, and Pruimpie’s cave. It is relatively easy and a good hike for children.
The Zebra Trail is 5 km long and is a recommended hike for beginners. It takes about 2 hours to walk and takes you over the cable car and past the dassie caves, Bomakieries Bos, and Oude Muragie. Hikers can also spot wildlife such as zebra, kudu, blesbok, and wildebeest on this trail.
The Krokodilberg Trail is 10 km with the highest elevation of the trails. It takes about 4 hours to complete and is not suitable for children. The viewpoints of the river, caves and Dolomite mines make every kilometre walked worth it. Read More…
