The Teatro de Bellas Artes was built at the end of 1948, by the Samayoa family, under the name of "Popular Cinema" , at the time of the maximum peak of cinema for black and white films, in addition, it had a capacity for a thousand people . The theater began to have different owners and functionalities according to the tastes of the people, becoming known until 1980 as Cine – Teatro Avenida .
In December 1980, the Ministry of Education acquired it for use by the recently created Directorate of Fine Arts and in 1981, it became part of the General Directorate of Cultural Diffusion .
