Houston rodeo foods that are actually worth it (and what you can skip)

With the first week of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officially wrapped up, there's been plenty of time to start eating through the city's largest event. Over three days and with the help of four tasting assistants (i.e. friends bribed with free food), I ate 27 rodeo food items so you don't have to.
When we write our guides before the rodeo kicks off, we haven't had a chance to try the food yet to check that it's good—or that it's even available. Rodeo food is expensive, and you need to know if something is worth seeking out and spending money on. This is why I took this investigation very seriously.

The best bites
Viet taco ($13)

This was by far my favorite bite of the entire rodeo. This taco comes with a choice of chicken or pork; I chose the latter. Thin grilled pork strips, like the ones found in a banh mi, were perfectly seasoned and tossed with carrot, cabbage, onions and cilantro.
