How To Get Rid Of Ants Permanently
Unfortunately, every home will experience an ant infestation at least once. But luckily there are many different ways you can eliminate the colonies from your home. Even though there are professional exterminations, they are only necessary for very extreme infestations. There are many amazing ways you can eliminate pests from your home permanently on your own without having to use super toxic repellents.
Glass Cleaner And Liquid Detergent
If you don't know, ants will leave a scented pheromone trail when they are walking which acts as a map. The best way to ensure that they can't leave a trail for others to come is to mic glass cleaning sprayed with dish soap into a spray bottle. You will want to spray the mixture you made on areas where you think that the ants are entering your home. After spraying the spots make sure that you are wiping it down but still leaving a light residue. To ensure that there are no ants in your home make sure that you are doing this as often as needed.
Ground Black Or Red Pepper
Another very simple way of ensuring that there are no ant infestations in your home ever again is by using pepper. You can sprinkle down pepper on places such as baseboards as well as behind all the appliances because the smell is a natural repellent for most insects.
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil is also another great insect repellent. It is effective not only for ants but also for mosquitoes. All you need to do is mix about 20 drops of peppermint oil into 2 cups of warm starter in a spray bottle. Spray it down where you think that ants can come from. But if you have pets this might not be the best option as it is toxic for them if they ingest it.
Tea Tree Oil
If you don't like the smell of peppermint or you don't have it on your hands, but you happened to have tea tree oil, it is just as effective. As it is more potent than peppermint oil, make sure that you are using five to ten drops with two cups of water. Spray down the mixture where you would usually see ants come from and wander. Another thing that you can do is soak cotton balls in the mixture and place them around your house. Just like any other essential oil, they are usually highly toxic to pets so make sure you are keeping it away from them.
Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
But if both tea tree and peppermint oils are too strong for you, you can always use lemon eucalyptus oil. They are another very natural repellent and it has a more subtle smell. It works so amazingly because it contains citronella which is usually the base of bug repellent sprays and candles. All you need to do is soak your cotton balls in the oil and put them wherever you usually see ants in your home. Make sure that you are replacing them every week or so to ensure no ants enter your home again. This oil is also toxic to pets, so make sure that they are staying away from it.
Commercial Repellents
If you don't want to use essential oils, there are also many different commercial repellents that you can use in your home. You can get a spray or a chemical termite barrier that will ensure that no pests enter your home, not only ants. But products like this are usually highly toxic chemicals and you will need to air out your home after using them.
White Vinegar
One of the best things that you can do to keep away ants forever is to use white vinegar. Ants absolutely despise the smell of vinegar. All you need to do is mix up some white vinegar with water and spray areas that you know ants usually enter from. Make sure that you are doing it on a daily basis. But something to keep in mind, this will not kill ants, this will only ensure that they are not coming into your home.
Keep The Outdoors Outside
Another very simple way to make sure no ants come into your home is ensuring that you are keeping all the outdoors outside. If there are any vines or just plants that are touching the exterior of your home or your windows means that all the ants have a direct way into your home. So, make sure that you are keeping everything nice and trimmed.
Cut Off Sources Of Food
What a lot of people don't realise is that ants are attracted to things like sugar, honey, cornmeal and other starchy foods. With that being said, the best way to ensure that there are no ants in your home is to make sure no food source is available for them to reach and sense.
Ants are one of the most common invaders of home, and it is not a big deal if you catch them in time as they are mostly harmless. If you don't catch them in time, you will be dealing with an invasion that can only be terminated by a professional.
