Hundreds of Hungarian Athletes to Compete in LA28 Olympics
Approximately 370 Hungarian athletes are expected to secure spots for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, according to Ádám Schmidt, the state secretary for sport. Speaking at a professional conference that highlighted the achievements of Hungarian sports in 2024, Schmidt reflected on the success of Hungarian athletes, who won 19 medals at the Paris Olympics. He acknowledged, however, that European Olympic achievements have been trending downward, and emphasized the need to halt and reverse this trend for Hungary.
Schmidt outlined a new sports support system in Hungary, which categorizes Olympic sports into five distinct groups. This initiative aims to enhance cooperation with the University of Physical Education, fostering a more integrated approach to athlete development.
Under the LA10 program, Hungary has set ambitious goals, aiming for 10 gold medals or a position among the top 10 nations in terms of gold medal counts at the upcoming Olympics. To support these objectives, the government has allocated 3 billion forints (approximately EUR 7.3 million) for the preparation of Hungarian athletes competing in LA28.
With a strong focus on improving performance and achieving significant medal counts, Hungary is gearing up for the 2028 Summer Olympics. The new support system and targeted funding reflect the country's commitment to fostering athletic excellence and enhancing its standing in the international sports arena.
