Hungary Partners with Axiom Space for Second Astronaut Mission
Hungary has finalized an agreement with U.S.-based Axiom Space to launch the country's second astronaut into space on the upcoming Ax-4 mission, announced Orsolya Ferencz, Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research. This mission will see the Hungarian astronaut spend 14 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS), engaging in scientific experiments that aim to advance Hungary's space sector and boost its competitive standing in the rapidly evolving space industry of the 21st century.
The exact launch date for the mission has not yet been determined and will be decided jointly by Axiom Space and NASA. Specialists from Hungary's HUNOR program will continue to collaborate with Axiom Space to ensure the successful preparation and execution of the scientific portfolio. This portfolio has been developed by national science workshops, universities, research institutes, and space industry companies.
In addition to preparing the scientific content, the training of the astronaut and his backup, both selected by HUNOR’s experts, will continue. This partnership marks a significant step for Hungary's involvement in space exploration, reflecting its commitment to fostering scientific advancement and international cooperation in space research.
