Hungary will host the World Rallycross Championship
For the first time, Hungary will host the World Rallycross Championship on July 27-28 at the Nyirád Racing Center, located in western Hungary. The event will also feature the European Championship, with 17 Hungarian drivers participating across four categories, as announced by the event organizers.
Event Highlights
Organizer's Vision: Orsolya Gyuris, the main organizer, emphasized the event's growth each year. Following the success of past European Championship races, they now aim to meet the highest standards of the rallycross series. Spectator safety is a top priority, and the event is designed to be family-friendly.
Safety Enhancements: To meet the requirements for the World Championship race, several safety upgrades have been made to the track, including new concrete walls, bumpers, and a VIP tower for spectators, while the track layout remains largely unchanged.
Event Schedule
Thursday: The festivities kick off with an opening ceremony at the main square in Tapolca at 5:30 p.m., where fans can interact with the cars and drivers.
Friday: A professional day at the circuit is planned.
Saturday and Sunday: Races will take place from 8:30 a.m. until late afternoon, featuring multiple heats and finals on both days.
Hungarian Drivers
Tamás Végh: Competing in the RX3 class with a Volkswagen Polo, Végh aims to reach the finals.
Balázs Körmöczi: Also driving a VW Polo, Körmöczi aims for a podium finish, leveraging his familiarity with the track and local fan support.
Sámuel Kovács: Debuting in RX3 with a Skoda Fabia, Kovács finished third in the European Championship in Höljes, Sweden. He hopes to reach the finals and potentially secure a podium position, considering this year as a learning experience.
Tamás Kárai: Competing in RX1 with an Audi S1, Kárai is confident in his home track advantage and aims for a podium finish.
Pál Vidu mentioned that 17 Hungarian drivers will compete in four categories.
