Instagram has introduced a new feature that enables users to respond to posts using GIFs and make further edits to their Reels.
Instagram has recently unveiled an eagerly awaited update that empowers users to express themselves using GIFs within the comments section. This development comes in response to numerous user requests for the integration of this widely popular means of communication.
Adam Mosseri, the current head of Instagram, announced this exciting addition through the official Instagram channel. The announcement was accompanied by a voice note and an illustrative image, demonstrating how a GIF can be seamlessly inserted into a comment using GIPHY. Furthermore, the news was also shared in a post on Meta's Newsroom.
In the voice note, Mosseri expressed a hint of remorse for the delayed arrival of this feature, referring to it as a long-awaited addition. He acknowledged that it should have been made available much earlier but due to circumstances, it has only now been introduced.
"We have also introduced GIFs in comments, which I like to consider a long-awaited feature. It's one of those additions that should have been implemented a while back, but we are finally able to present it to you. We apologize for the delay and hope you enjoy using GIFs in comments."
This feature is now accessible worldwide for both Android and iOS users, with immediate effect. However, it may be introduced gradually, so don't fret if you haven't received it yet. To determine its availability, keep an eye out for the GIF icon located at the bottom right of the "Add a comment" field when commenting on a post.
Moreover, Instagram plans to enhance the Reels editor, allowing users to divide a single clip into two separate ones, adjust the speed of their clips, and replace clips without affecting the timing. These enhancements will be rolled out globally over the next few weeks.
Integrating GIFs into your comments provides an excellent opportunity to infuse personality and humor into your posts, as well as engage creatively with your social circle. Meanwhile, Instagram continues to expand its platform with new features reminiscent of TikTok, underscoring its commitment to compete and establish itself as the premier social network for media sharing.
