K-pop artist Stray Kids makes Billboard history with latest album 5-STAR
K-pop sensation Stray Kids has made history on the Billboard charts with their latest album, 5-STAR. Released on June 2, the album features the title track "S-Class" and has quickly risen to the top. Stray Kids has achieved the remarkable feat of simultaneously claiming the number one spot on both the Billboard 200 and Artist 100 charts, marking three consecutive years of chart-topping success following the release of their mini-albums ODDINARY and MAXIDENT in 2022, as well as their debut album in 2023.
Moreover, 5-STAR has proven its dominance by claiming the number one position on several other prestigious Billboard charts, including Top Album Sales, Top Current Album Sales, World Album Billboard, and Bubbling Under Hot 25. The album's impressive performance on these charts has paved the way for its entry into the esteemed Hot 100 Billboard chart, where it secured a notable position. Additionally, the album reached the second spot on the World Digital Song Sales chart, third on the Tastemaker Album chart, 24th on the Billboard Global 200 chart, 15th on the Billboard Global (excluding the US) chart, and 22nd on the Digital Song Sales chart.
The outstanding success of 5-STAR is evident from its recognition across 11 categories on the latest major charts. Stray Kids' consistent reign on the Billboard 200 chart began with their debut album, ODDINARY, released in March 2022, and has continued with their subsequent releases. This achievement was previously accomplished only by British pop star Harry Styles. Notably, the physical copies of 5-STAR have recorded a remarkable 235,000 units sold in the first week of release, surpassing Taylor Swift's "Midnights" released in October 2022. This makes Stray Kids' latest album the best-selling album in the US for a week in 2023.
The immense popularity of Stray Kids is further evident in the staggering pre-order numbers for their third album, which surpassed 5.13 million pre-orders as of June 1st, setting a new record for K-pop history. On June 8th, the album achieved an impressive sales figure of 4,617,499 copies based on the Hanteo Chart, solidifying its status as the first quad million seller for JYP Entertainment. These achievements have also propelled Stray Kids to international fame, with the album's title track, "S-Class," debuting at number 40 on the Official Album Chart Top 100 released by the British Official Charts. This surpasses the previous record set by ODDINARY, which peaked at 95th place in March 2022.
