Large Rockfall Narrowly Misses Stockeralm
On Wednesday evening, a massive rockslide occurred in the Untersulzbachtal near the town of Neukirchen am Großvenediger. The debris from the rockfall narrowly missed the Stockeralm, a mountain hut, leaving both the hut and its visitors unharmed. The incident was reported by the Neukirchen fire department, which stated that the mountain hut and its guests were only covered in dust.
Gotthard Kaiser, the owner of the hut, recounted the dramatic moments: "There was a loud bang and then the dust started coming." Despite the initial shock, he expressed relief that there was no significant damage. "Today everything is white with dust. But it will blow away and then it will look great again. The rock is all up there with the cliff. Everything is well."
The fire department was alerted by the mayor after the local chief received a call about the rockfall. The cause of the rockfall remains unknown at this time.
