Lima Art Museum: French artist Joanie Lemercier criticizes ecological damage in digital exhibition
For Joanie Lemercier, expressing herself through computers and other information technology tools comes very naturally. "I am a digital native," this French artist tells the Official Gazette El Peruano.
That doesn't mean, however, that it has any qualms about creating so-called planned obsolescence: creating products that have a short shelf life.
For this reason, in his works, such as the exhibition of installations Landscapes of light , he uses the gadgets at his disposal to create idyllic environments, while exposing places devastated by the excessive consumption of raw materials.
His exhibition, these days at the Lima Art Museum thanks to the support of Fundación Telefónica, is a series of installations that use light to create enveloping environments.
Coming out of the box
The artist compares it to graffiti, since he tries to occupy as much space as possible. These works make the viewer feel that he is entering beautiful natural places, such as the Hambach Forest in Germany, and then moving on to a site destroyed by the hand of man.
There are other works that are more metaphorical, such as one named 'Fuji'. It recreates a Japanese oral tradition about a bamboo cutter.
