Major WhatsApp Change Could Finally Be Coming for Apple Users – Over a Year After Android
WhatsApp users on iPhones may soon have a long-awaited feature that allows them to use a separate number for the app on the same device, a capability that Android users have enjoyed for over a year. This update is particularly relevant for those who want to maintain distinct profiles for personal and professional use.
According to WABetaInfo, a site dedicated to tracking updates on the messaging app, WhatsApp is currently working on a feature that will enable users to add and manage multiple accounts within the app. Previously, iPhone users had to rely on the separate WhatsApp Business app to manage different accounts or use an entirely different phone.
The anticipated change aims to streamline the user experience, making it easier to switch between accounts, similar to how users can manage profiles on Instagram or Facebook, both of which are owned by Meta. While the feature is not yet widely available, it has been spotted in the beta version 25.2.10.70 for select testers through the Test Flight program, with a broader rollout expected in future updates.
WABetaInfo reported that notifications, chats, backups, and settings will remain separate for each account, allowing users to maintain distinct profiles without the hassle of logging in and out. This functionality was previously rolled out for Android users, who were informed that the update would help them easily switch between their "work you" and "fun you" on the same device.
Meta's announcement in October 2023 highlighted the benefits of having two WhatsApp accounts logged in simultaneously, eliminating the need to carry two phones or worry about sending messages from the wrong account. To set up a second account, users will need a second phone number and SIM card or a device that supports multi-SIM or eSIM.
In addition to this feature, Meta recently announced that users would be able to integrate WhatsApp into their Account Centre, facilitating easier sharing of updates between WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. This integration will allow users to reshare updates from their WhatsApp Status to their Facebook or Instagram Stories seamlessly.
Moreover, WhatsApp plans to introduce more camera effects, selfie stickers, and quick reactions to enhance user engagement. Another exciting update on the horizon is the ability to message ChatGPT directly from WhatsApp, as announced by OpenAI, which aims to make the AI more accessible.
However, users with older smartphones may not benefit from these updates, as WhatsApp has made changes to its compatibility with operating systems. Some older Android devices lost access to the app starting January 1, 2024, highlighting the ongoing evolution of the platform and its features.
As these updates roll out, iPhone users can look forward to a more versatile and user-friendly experience on WhatsApp, aligning more closely with the capabilities already available to Android users.
