Makueni County Kicks Off 2024 Music and Cultural Festival
Makueni County has officially launched the 2024 Music and Cultural Festival today at GreenPark Wote, marking a significant step in promoting cultural and musical development within the region. The festival features an impressive 166 entries from various wards, showcasing a diverse array of local talents in music, dance, elocution, theatre, and film.
Themed “Utamaduni Wetu ni Nguzo ya Utajiri Wetu” (Our Culture is the Pillar of Our Wealth), the festival aims to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Makueni County. During the opening ceremony, Dr. Sonia Nzilani, the County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture, and Tourism, emphasized the county government's commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage and advancing the arts as a means to foster economic prosperity.
Dr. Nzilani stated, “The county government is dedicated to safeguarding our cultural heritage and advancing the arts as a pathway to economic prosperity.” This sentiment reflects the festival's goal of not only celebrating local talent but also leveraging cultural initiatives to boost the local economy.
Top performers from the Makueni County festival will have the opportunity to advance to the 97th Kenya Music and Cultural Festival, scheduled to take place from December 1-10, 2024, in Taita Taveta. This provides a platform for local artists to gain national recognition and further their careers in the arts.
The launch event was attended by key county officials, including Chief Officer Dr. Jossylyn Nzilani and Culture Director Mutua Mulonzya, who expressed their support for the festival and its objectives.
