Manuel Neuer had three skin cancer ops and says 'factor 50 is essential' for footballers
Bayern Munich and Germany star Manuel Neuer has revealed that he has been battling skin cancer and has undergone three rounds of surgery to eradicate it.
The 36-year-old, who is currently facing a race against time to be fit for the World Cup due to a separate issue, made the stunning admission on Instagram today and encouraged his fellow players to wear factor 50+ sun cream during matches.
"I had to have three operations and have had skin cancer," the Bayern icon said. "Since we are constantly training and playing outside and also like to spend our free time in nature, it is essential for us to start with modern sun protection filters and with sun protection factor 50+."
Neuer has now invested in sun cream products with German tennis player Angelique Kerber and says athletes who work outdoors need to take the sun more seriously.
"We both have a history of skin diseases. In my case, skin cancer on my face, which required three surgeries. When it comes to sunscreen, we have therefore paid attention to maximum protection," the German stopper said. Read More...
