MEF: S/2,150 million have been lost due to protests
According to Minister Alex Contreras, the most affected regions are Cusco, Puno and Madre de Dios.

Through a press conference, Alex Contreras , head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), reported that, to date, national production has lost just over S/2,150 million as a result of the demonstrations against the government of President Dina Boluarte, which began on December 8.
According to the minister, the south of Peru is the area most affected by the roadblocks , the interruption of company operations, the attempt to take over airports, among other situations that occurred during the protests.
“There are three regions where the main economic losses have been concentrated: Cusco, Madre de Dios and Puno. Regarding the cost of social conflict in terms of economic activity, our latest estimate is S/2,150 million ,” said Contreras .
The head of the MEF maintained that the regions most economically affected by the protests have an execution of S/ 0 in investment.
«This social conflict is hitting mainly the mypes and the most vulnerable. It is not possible for the regional governments with the most losses to have a 0% execution," added the minister.
Consequently, with the impact of the demonstrations, the MEF estimates that the country will only have 2% economic growth in the first quarter of the year if the conflict continues. If a consensus is reached, then the GDP for the first three months of the year would have an advance of 3%. Read More…
