Minors at risk? Peruvian adolescents confirm that they know less than 50% of their contacts on social networks
A study surveyed 806 adolescents from Lima, Callao and Arequipa about the psychosocial risks derived from the use of the Internet and social networks, such as sexting, grooming, cyberbullying, among others.

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in 2021, it was reported that the largest Internet users are adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 (88.3%), a group that uses this platform at least once. once a day.
For this reason, as part of the Controla Tu Red program, in 2022 Fundación Mapfre conducted a study with 806 adolescents from Lima, Callao and Arequipa, to find out the most common risks to which adolescents are exposed by having indiscriminate access to social networks. social.
To do this, for example, adolescents were asked if they had received an invitation for an appointment from an adult , to which 12% answered yes. Then, they asked if anyone had made a blind date with an adult and 4% said they had. In this regard, psychologist Edwin Salas, the study's main advisor, indicates that "This percentage, although it may seem small, is highly worrying, since these types of activities (blind dates, inappropriate contact with minors, etc.) are developed by adults who have a clear idea of sexual violence and the consequences it may have for minors should be worrying, since they are children and adolescents contacted by psychopaths”.
