Morocco Elected to UN Trade Law Commission

Morocco continues gaining responsibility in international trade organizations, with the latest indication being the country's election as a member of the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for the 2022-2027 term.
“Morocco thanks the General Assembly for its support and looks forward to the important work ahead,” tweeted the Permanent Mission of Morocco to the UN.
The election reflects the role of Morocco in strengthening the legal framework of international trade as an instigator for sustainable development.
Founded in 1966, UNCITRAL is the UN’s core legal body in the field of international trade law. The organization is based in Vienna, Austria, and consists of 70 UN member states.
It coordinates and cooperates with regional and international organizations on legal activities to promote adherence to trade laws at the national and international levels.
As a member of UNCITRAL, Morocco renews its commitment to respect and preserve trade law both within its territories and in its bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
This responsibility aligns with prior Moroccan engagements in the fields of economy and investment, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
Notably, Morocco has secured key positions in 2022 within regional and international organizations such as the African Union Peace and Security Council, where the country has been serving as a member for a three-year mandate.
Additionally, members of the World Food Program’s Executive Board re-elected Morocco as the coordinator of the African Group, making it the representative of African countries’ voices and interests within the organization.
Moroccan efforts to advance human and sustainable development led to the election of Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali as the President of the Environmental Assembly.
For Morocco, Benali's election was once again an acknowledgment of the country’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and alleviating the consequences of climate change.
