Morocco's Telecom Sector Sees Impressive Growth: 59.8 Million Subscribers
Morocco's telecommunications sector has continued to thrive, with the total subscriber base reaching an impressive 59.8 million in the first half of 2024. This marks a significant 5.2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data released by the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
The mobile phone market has been the primary driver of this growth, with a steady 5% increase bringing the number of mobile subscribers to 56.8 million. This translates to a penetration rate of 152.1%, indicating that there is, on average, more than one mobile subscription per inhabitant.
Despite the growing popularity of mobile technology, fixed-line subscriptions have also seen a notable increase of 7.6%, reaching 2.9 million. The internet subscriber base has witnessed a substantial surge, surpassing 39.1 million with a growth rate of 6.9%. This has propelled the penetration rate to an impressive 104.8% at the end of June 2024.
This impressive growth in the telecommunications sector highlights Morocco's ongoing digital transformation. As the country continues to invest in its digital infrastructure, it is likely that the telecom sector will continue to thrive, driving economic growth and development.
