Nokia Partners with Telecom Egypt to Launch 5G in Egypt
Nokia has partnered with Telecom Egypt to launch 5G services in the country, utilizing Nokia's energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology to deliver 5G capacity and coverage to Telecom Egypt's customers.
The new 5G technology is expected to bring numerous benefits to Egypt, including better internet connection, enhanced network performance, and improved capacity, especially in the country's most densely populated areas. Nokia believes that this advancement will give rise to unprecedented innovation and efficiency across various industries, enabling organizations to thrive in today's fast-paced digital landscape.
As part of the partnership, Nokia will offer various professional services, including deployment, integration, and network optimization. This will ensure a seamless and efficient rollout of 5G services in Egypt.
Mohamed Al Fowey, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Telecom Egypt, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that it further cements their longstanding relationship with Nokia and reaffirms the government-owned telco's commitment to providing outstanding digital services. "Both our consumer and enterprise customers can look forward to enhanced mobile broadband and exciting new applications that leverage the speed and low latency of 5G technology," he added.
The partnership comes on the heels of Telecom Egypt's recent 15-year licence approval from Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to operate 5G services in the country. The licence, worth $150 million, makes Telecom Egypt the first mobile operator to secure a 5G licence in Egypt.
Telecom Egypt has also announced a partnership with Zain Omantel International Company (ZOI) to develop new digital infrastructure and establish a data transfer route connecting Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Arabian Gulf.
The telco, which has been providing retail telecommunication services for over 50 years, reported a 48% net profit for the first nine months of 2023.
Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, noted that introducing 5G services will create new opportunities for individuals and businesses in Egypt. With this partnership, Nokia and Telecom Egypt are poised to bring the benefits of 5G to the Egyptian market, driving innovation and growth in the region.
