National Art Gallery Presents Bulgaria Pavilion at Venice Biennale
There You Are, the project of Vienna-based Bulgarian artist Michail Michailov that represents this country at the 2022 Venice Biennale, was presented by the National Art Gallery (NAG) in Sofia Wednesday. The presentation was made by curator Irina Batkova in the presence of NAG director Yara Bubnova, who is the national commissioner for the Venice Biennale, and culture manager and journalist Martina Stefanova.
Batkova said from the very start the artist and herself sought to make the Bulgarian pavilion visible against the backdrop of the visitors hurrying from one exhibition to the next. "We created a space where one thinks about where they are. We tried to make sure we don’t set the direction for the visitors in this space," the curator said.
This is Bulgaria's 10th participation in the Venice Biennale, which was founded in 1895. Bulgaria took part in the editions in 1910, 1942, 1948, 1964, 1993, 1999, 2007, 2011 and 2019.
A jury appointed by the Culture Ministry selected Michailov's project. It is set up in Spazio Rava, in the San Polo district of central Venice near the Rialto Bridge. VeniceArtFactory is the project's manager. Read More...
