National Electoral Commission has announced provisional results for senatorial elections
The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has announced the provisional results for the senatorial elections held on Monday, September 16, across Rwanda’s four provinces and the City of Kigali. With a voter turnout of 97.02%, the elections were conducted to select 12 senators from a pool of 32 candidates, as per constitutional guidelines.
Key Results
Northern Province
Laetitia Nyinawamwiza led with 246 votes (73.00%), followed by Laetitia Rugira with 211 votes (62.61%).
Southern Province
Adrie Umuhire secured 300 votes (70.42%), Pelagie Uwera garnered 268 votes (62.91%), and Sosthène Cyitatire received 263 votes (61.74%). All three have previously served in the Senate.
Eastern Province
John Bonds Bideri led with 317 votes (80.46%), followed by Alvera Mukabaramba with 301 votes (76.40%) and Fulgence Nsengiyumva with 270 votes (68.53%).
Western Province
Marie Rose Mureshyankwano took the lead with 286 votes (74.67%), followed by Emmanuel Havugimana with 266 votes (69.45%) and Cyprien Niyomugabo with 260 votes (67.88%).
City of Kigali
Esperance Nyirasafari, a former senate vice president, was re-elected with 55.26% of the votes in a race of four candidates.
All successful candidates, including Nyirasafari, will be returning to the Senate for another term.
